[Update] Read all you want. I was way off.
Okay, so I lied. It's not a speculation about an interesting idea, (i will write one though) but it will be a guide to the main character who will die before the end of the season.
Here it goes.

So a character Will Die, and it will be a Main Character....

Charlie is not the one who will die. But I can tell you that this person is well-loved, well-featured, and well, doomed. So It's a boy, implying Walt, but still open to every man on the island, that is a main character...

When the BIG castmember dies off, Claire's baby will be born .... And Jack will NOT be the one to deliver it. The ultimate reason for the death will be the ultimate betrayal from someone he believes to be his trusted ally. But I will say that when I say BIG character, it is not a reference to anyone's size. Lost will return with new episodes on April 13th and we'll get more backstory on Locke, Jack, Sayid and Kate (in that order) before the season ender which will take the life of one of the beloved ten men. I would say that only sick and mean producers would kill Walt, because he's only a kid. So I think I can safely that it isn't him.

To narrow them down, they're all pretty even...BUT they do have some nitpicky information that could lesson or increase their chance of death.
MICHAEL-the producers may consider killing Michael as being racist....however....It would make sense, becuase Michael may just be on the island to foster Walt, and doesn't really belong there. He's not really a trusted ally of Jack.
BOONE-Nobody really likes Boone. It's supposed to be a well-loved character. His relationship with Jack is neutral, and would probably not be regarded as a trusted ally or an en,y.
SAYID-A very lovable character. He is a trusted ally of Jack. He would lie, but only to save the people he loves. The "island" also may dislike him because he keeps thinking up ways to get off it.
LOCKE-He is a trusted ally of Jack, but isn't very lovable. We know very little about him, except that he knows many secrets... He would lie, but probably only for some reason we won't know because LOST nevers reveals anything. He has a good chance of turning against Jack and is a good knife-thrower....but I don't the person dies that way......

I dont think its Sayid, I think its going to be Sawyer.

The ultimate reason for the death will be the ultimate betrayal from someone he believes to be his trusted ally.It doesnt say his trusted ally will be the one to die, it says it will be due to betrayal of his trusted ally. Kate is Jack's trusted ally. She will betray him somehow that ends up causing Sawyers death.
I just stumbled upon this blog - it is awesome...I'm so glad I'm not the only one addicted to lost (some friends and I get together every wednesday to watch it). That is some great deductive reasoning - I hope that Sawyer doesn't die. Sayid would be a loss to but he doesn't create as much of the storylines so after reading that i bet he will be the one to go
