Cythina Wathros herself is mourning the death of her character Libby. She didn't take the news very well. Her misery was in fact so extreme that it motivated Carlton Cuse and some of the "Lost" team to aid her in finding a new job.
So why did they kick her off the show? Originally, she wasn't meant to last long, however there just wasn't "enough substance" to her flashback to keep her there. However, she may appear in other characters' flashbacks, which may tell us some of her story.
Damon Lindeloff says that Libby's death was necessary because it guaranteed emotional conflict for the rest of season.
